My Cause

My sons are terrific! They have truly given my life purpose, direction and meaning. They have taught me things that I never would have discovered on my own.

The most important thing I have discovered is that the world we live in is not equipped to handle outliers. Mediocrity we do well and in abundance. However, stark differences to mediocrity are soundly discouraged - unless you have money.

Which brings me to the purpose of this blog.

Being Autistic is really difficult. Every day, those affected by this disorder or some form of it struggle to achieve mediocrity when they have the potential to achieve so much more.

This blog will be devoted to finding ways to make it easier to accept the genius so carefully encapsulated within the minds of those with ASDs so that they can become the valuable, participatory, critical and integral pieces of our culture and societies that we currently simply don't know how to react to or deal with without applying labels that increase our comfort levels as opposed to theirs.

Please make a donation if you can. http://funds.gofundme.com/BethFreudenburg/BellenGroup

Any help, even the smallest amount can result in a collective and cumulative benefit for families and individuals who understand ASDs. (I hate to use words like "suffer from" and "are afflicted by" or "have been devastated by" when I write about Autism.) Yes, it's difficult on a monumental and incalculable scale and so much more for some than others, but at the same time, I find that it has been a genuine gift of learning - a true silver lining full of insight, surprise and complete adoration.
